Thank-you letter from Seneca Falls Humane Society.

I want you and your readers to know is what we saw in
New Orleans!! I felt like I was back in Africa or Bosnia -
where there is little concern for life, human, feline,
canine, any kind of life. The vulnerable- the old, the poor,
and pets left behind often because their people were
promised they'd be cared for - were left injured, dying in
their homes and on the street.

Subject: Foster a dog NOW for your local Humane Society
Since "Katrina Dogs" have been moved to other  HSUS shelters, they will have to make room for them.
Please go to your local shelter today and offer to foster one of their dogs - it will save a life - and help to make room for these Katrina dogs that are coming in.
In essence, it is the same as fostering a Katrina dog.
All the shelters are going to feel the Katrina impact, so save a Katrina dog there in your home town.

The Snowball angle softened the official ''leave all pets behind" evacuation policy. Displaced people leaving New Orleans have been allowed to travel out with four-legged companions. Some of the evacuees who landed on Cape Cod arrived with their critters -- ''including several mutts, a Pomeranian, and a cocker spaniel," according to the Globe.

1, What is considered the Causeway ? and in the video of Snowball, is that the Causeway? how far is it from the Dome ? which is closer the Dome or the convention center...... or the convention center...... to where the bus is in the video?   As for the video, the first shot looks like buses parked under the Causeway overpass in Metairie (these buses could not get to the city on I-10 due to flooding), the second shot of the dog and policeman is on I-610 and my guess is the only way that bus could get there is a round about way thru the city on I-10 having crossed the Mississippi River Bridge due to the extensive flooding in the city. It would also have to leave that same way and would go right by the Superdome first on its way out, and then go very near the Convention Center too. I seriously doubt that this bus would ever have gone out of its way to Metairie. All very confusing. I guess it might be hard for a reporter to know that all these video clips are from different areas. Anyway I have a great satellite view of the city if you would like anymore info from me. Please feel free to email me.It is just heartbreaking everytime I see that video.

This is the best picture i can get to show you where Snowball was taken. It is not Interstate 10 rather it is I-610 which is a bypass around the city of New Orleans, it begins almost in Metairie and ends around New Orleans East. (Notice the Fairgrounds Racetrack at bottom of the Picture.) That neighborhood around the Fairgrounds is known as Gentilly. I emailed you once before describing the causeway and info to your other questions. I did not know where that red roof building was for sure but I knew it was not  near Causeway Blvd. I did think it was off Interstate 610 because of the train tracks alongside the interstate. Also  I knew it wasn't the Causeway by the chainlink fencing along the siderails .

A TRUE MYSTERY, !  WHICH DOG IS REALLY SNOWBALL ?,

We think this could be the original boy and the puppy "Snowball", the photo was taken in the Superdome on  9/1/05

"God bless the little boy who jolted our national conscience and made us look repugnantly at ourselves and how we treat our animals" …

We think another child  Romello and his mother took care of "Snowball" above and they are now in Texas. ( where the original child is that cried and vomited we do not know yet! )

Fort Worth Star-Telegram (TX)
      September 11, 2005
Romello Freeman is 8, a third-grader from New Orleans who got a blue backpack with school supplies for his first day at Luella Merrett Elementary on Wednesday.
What did you do? he was asked.
"Let me see: work, PE, lunch, play, work, leave."
He has big brown eyes and braided hair, and he is utterly smitten with his new dog, a tiny Maltese he named Sunje.

The dog had run into his mother's long dress as the family stood in line to leave the Superdome last Friday. They picked her up and took her with them.

Hi,
My name is Chelsi and I worked out at the camp where they were holding people in Ft. Worth and actually got a chance to play with Sunjie and his new mom. As I, too, questioned whether he might be Snowball, I am certain he is not. I held this dog in my arms and he is MUCH smaller then Snowball appears in the picture of the man by the bus. And Sunjie is defintely a puppy, still very much in the "chewing stage." He is a very fortunate dog though, being taken in by his new family and the camp. I think he brings a little light and hope to everyone there.

I DO NOT THINK THE CBS DOG IS "SNOWBALL" but it is America's Snowball!.

Just discovered that the bus that snowball was trying to get on was the
following company. The logo, the cop standing by the bus and the
Department of Transportation number seem to match. Will try to contact
them and keep you all advised.

Snowball in the news...

From: "Lesley Hobbs"
To: justsaveonemore@yahoo.com
Subject: Re: Is this Snowball?
Date: Thu, 15 Sep 2005 17:33:42 -0400

Jean,
I emailed the journalist who wrote the star-telegram.com story (Chris
Vaughn) back on Sept 13 and asked him if the female stray Maltese puppy that
Romello Freeman took with him from the Superdome on Sept 2 might be
Snowball. He replied to me that day and said he planned to visit the
evacuee shelter later that afternoon to ask Romello and his family about
the dog.

Mr. Vaughn said he had looked at the CBS images of "Snowball" and compared
them to Romello's dog Sunje. In his email, Mr. Vaughn said it is "a bit
doubtful that Sunje is Snowball. Sunje is tiny, so tiny she looks like a
puppy. She stands about 7-8 inches high. Snowball (do we know a gender?)
looks a little bigger judging from the cop's hands in the picture."

I have not heard back from the journalist since then.

BUT, this doesn't mean that Sunje isn't Snowball. Mr. Vaughn was comparing
Sunje to the CBS footage of a small white dog being carried away by a
policeman and then jumping on the bus.

I DO NOT THINK THE CBS DOG IS SNOWBALL.

Here's why....As the images of the stranded white dog are shown
in the footage, CBS anchor John Roberts recounts the joy people felt about
being rescued. "But," he says, "there was also sadness and separation. No
dogs on the bus, and this pet of 9 years suddenly found itself orphaned."

Could this "pet of 9 years," really be Snowball?

The AP article by Adam Nossiter that originally broke the Snowball Story refers to Snowball as a "puppy."

A woman I've been in contact with, Becky (BeckXXX@aol.com ) said
her mother saw this footage live, and afterwards, an elderly woman
(presumably the white dog's owner) was filmed saying "There goes 9 years of
companionship".

I think the CBS footage is of another white dog (not Snowball) that is owned by this elderly woman.

I noticed on your katrinafoundpets.com website that you think that the CBS footage was shot on the I-10 causeway near the Convention Center.

This would be another reason to doubt the footage -- wasn't Snowball abandoned outside the Superdome, and not the Convention Center?

I do think that the Romello Freeman story is worth pursuing further.

A female Maltese puppy found outside the Superdome on Sept 2 (a day after
Snowball was abandoned) seems like a good contender for Snowball to me....

Lesley Hobbs.

What Mary Foster the AP reporter had to say !....

Mary Foster, American wants to know!, can you describe the Snowball you reported about ?,  email us.

Here is everything that I can remember.
I like many others have been very concerned about the little dog named Snowball who was snatched from a little boy in new Orleans boarding a bus from the superdome. I thought one way of finding out where Snowball may be was to contact Mary Foster from the associated press. (the reporter who wrote the story).

I first called the Associated Press in Baton Rough. They gave me the number to the New Orleans office.
I called asking for Mary Foster .
It took a few tries of calling before someone gave me a cell phone number.
The first few times they would not give me anyway to contact her. I explained why I was calling and my questions were avoided.
I did however speak to a man once who told me Snowball was at a University in Louisiana but when I tried there I was told that was not so.
Anyways, this morning I decided I would try the associated press again. I asked can I please speak with Mary Foster? The lady who answered the phone said she was in New Orleans and asked if I would like her cell phone number. I of course did, so she gave it to me and I called Mary Foster.
When Mary Foster answered the phone I asked if that was her and she said "it was".
I just started asking questions about Snowball. I asked her where was Snowball taken after the bus left? .
She told me "Snowball was taken to a stairwell in a shopping center near the Superdome. " She told me she "saw Snowball in the stairwell a few times after that."
She than told me when "she was there the same time as the ‘ASPCA’ "(when the ’ASPCA’ came to get the dogs) "Snowball was not there anymore. "
I asked her where could he have gone.
She told me "some of the police officers and national guards adopted some of the dogs."
She also told me "some got out of the stairwell. "
I then proceeded to tell her that there are people looking for Snowball and that there is a reward.
She than told me she " thought the reward money should be donated to the children. "

From Jean Jones
To all of you who are still wishing to see Snowball re-united with his or her family, we are working very hard to do that.
I did call the # given to me for Mary Foster, I informed her I was the person/organization who has the reward money for Snowball, and wanted to verify a few things, she said she was "too busy to talk to me".
I asked her when I could call her back ? she put the phone down on me!.......
I have an obligation the many people who donated to re-unite Snowball to solve this story/now mystery.
For 100% verification I ran the phone # through an internet search costing $14.95 and it came back with a Cell # owned by # 1 THE ASSOC PRESS (504) XXX-XXX

Snowball in the news...

I emailed Shaina Alvarez, public relations for Feinstein, and asked what IS the truth, does the ASPCA have Snowball as he said on
Larry King OR NOT! She emailed me back and said he spoke with regard to this announcement. What IS going on??????? I am sick to death of all of the
misinformation regarding this poor dog. I want this dog found and safe and healthy and happy. Who is telling the truth and who
is a damned liar? Does any person have any idea of what the TRUTH is??????

Sincerely,

Is this Snowball ?? wandering outside the Superbowl  this picture was taken Sept 3rd at 7.33pm who took it??

I found this and cut and paste it. Does anyone know if it's valid?

Hi
The puppy which belonged to the boy, apparently Romello
Freeman, was a little, I would say Bichon Frise and there was
a photo somewhere of the same coast guard who confiscated
the other pooch. This little pup though would have only been
about 4 months old. It apparently was reunited with the
boy. The boy is spose to be going to Luella Merrett Elementary
in Fort Worth, Texas.

Now the little white pooch on the bridge apparently was 9
year old and belonged to an elderly lady in a wheelchair,
looks like the same coast guard to me that moved this pooch
away from the bus. This pooch looks to me to be a Bichon,
poodle type dog. The woman was loaded onto a Sunshine Express
bus . This is the pooch that we are all looking for but it
would be good to have some confirmation on the little one
as well. An ending to all would be great.

I believe it was the LA State Police who were loading buses, not the Coast Guard.

This Freeman fellow was identified as a reporter or something who knows of the little boy and saw the little dog. He indicates that the boy's Snowball was a tiny puppy. Jean has more information on her webpage about this.

It is truly so frustrating.

I was able to find some pictures today though of the walkways around the Convention Center and they were red paver brick. So, the tired little dog that Jean has one her website was probably abandoned at the Convention Center. I have been trying to develop a timeline on when America's Snowball was abandoned and where exactly. I-10 at Causeway Blvd looks promising. This is in Jefferson Parish, Metarie LA, and I know from reading reports from Houston that residents of Metarie were in the Astrodome on Sept 1st.

The CBS video was broadcast on Sept 1, and the Convention Center did not start evacuating until a few days later.

My theory at this time is that residents of Metarie gathered on or near Causeway Blvd-maybe on an overpass-and were bused out to Houston on Sept 1st by the LA State Police. I believe the LA National Guard was handling the Superdome evacuations on Sept 1st. I know that evacuations were taking place on the I-10 as I found pictures of that.

Reports in Houston say that at least 5 buses arrived at the Astrodome late Thursday night on the 1st and were not permitted to enter the Astrodome because the Astrodome had the understanding that they were only to accept people from the LA Superdome. Around midnight they finally accepted those people bused from "other areas in New Orleans" which probably meant the Metarie area.

If so, the picture that Jean has of 2 women and a poodle could be America's Snowball waiting in Metarie to be bused out.

"Sometimes rationality and reason and common sense simply has to respect and bow before the heart. And that is what little Snowball is. Because if this one little dog can be found, alive and healthy, and returned to his little boy then there is the hope to all the others out there...the many others out there just like us, too numb to cry, that maybe, just maybe theirs will be the next miracle. And that will be what they need to go on.  Sus "

On Thursday, when an officer confiscated a dog, a little boy cried out Snowball! Snowball!'' until he vomited. The police took from a boy and tossed by the side of the bus- the dog tried again and again to get on the bus -police pushed it away.

National Guard officers said dogs were being taken to a stairwell in the New Orleans Center, a shopping mall near the Superdome, and given food and water. They feared some of them might have escaped, and two small dogs were seen wandering nearby streets. The tiny dog desperately tried to get on the bus...we saw this on the news he is a Poodle

We so hoped it was true MR. FEINSTEIN!....so where is he/she?

I was watching the "Larry King" show on CNN
I saw Michael Feinstein ASPCA mention the one of happy story is that Snowball "was found on Thursday" and will be re-united with his family.

I was personally told he was not by the #1 vet in charge man in LO Mr. Terry C, a mistake had been made.

Subject: 50 Dead Dogs

Ok. somewhere I heard that www.PuppymillRescue.com  was wanting info on the 50 dead dogs in a refrigerator truck that was delivered to Parker Coliseum at LSU.

This is true. The SPCA used the truck successfully for two other loads. Somewhere between the last load and it's delivery the refrig unit gave out and all the dogs perished. There were two SPCA trucks which were loaded down with the rescued cats. These animals were fine. There was nothing that could have been done for the dogs. No one could have known that the unit gave out. They were trying as best they could to get these animals to safety.

Two surviving dogs emerged. One small dog near the front of the truck was still alive. It was rushed to the LSU Vet school immediately and is is ICU doing well. Another dog, a dach. was somehow loaded onto the cat truck instead and survived unharmed. Squishy Piggy was his name I believe.

The dead animals were carefully taken from the trucks and cataloged for any identifying information. I know this because I was one of the persons on hand who identified these dogs. It was heartbreaking but something we had to do. We wanted to make sure everything was done to identify these dogs and notify the owners. Owners are being talked to by a specialist with grief counseling and we have told them over and over again how much we regret what happened. The Louisiana SPCA did everything they were supposed to. The dogs were then taken to be refriged until the owners claimed them if they wished to do so.

Just passing on the info so rumors don't get spread.

Thanks,

Dear Mr. Conger,
We understand a mistake was made, "in the smoke of battle", you were charming on the telephone with me and very sincere.
The person who did not pick up the ball and re-tract the "found" story in USA Today was Anita Manning, I spoke with her and begged her call you again, confirm with you and retract the Found Snowball Story, she did not!.
In fact she said" her Editor wanted her to work on something else".
This is why we are all so upset, can you please confirm that Michael Feinstein ASPCA has THE Snowball safe as he stated last evening on the " Larry King" show ???.
You are all hero's in this disaster.....please use your influence to find this little dog.
We so need a happy ending.

"And Snowball, the dog that was taken from the arms of a boy departing the Superdome, has been found at a shelter and efforts continue to find her family. American Humane will be on the scene as long as it takes to track down animals like these and reunite them with their families."
Is this Snowball ??? We do have a person in the area helping, she is sending pictures of small white rescued dogs to us. She will send more pictures of other rescued pets as they come in to us.
CONFINED PETS STILL IN DISASTER AREA
Beginning on September 1, residents who left pets in their homes may call a hot line to leave information about the number of animals, species, and their confined location. The number is (225) 578-6111.
After copying pasting cropping and enlarging, this dog has a shaved face, shaved feet and a stubby tail. Feet look like they maybe shaved about 1 1/2 weeks prior to pics being taken. Definitely in a one length all over body puppy cut. Bet they had him recently groomed prior to the storm hitting.

that is a poodle with a clean shaved face. Im a groomer, its face is shaved.

Tiny white dog taken to Lamar-Dixon, owner. Dog taken to LSU as it was sick overnight. We think this dog is a Chinese Crested powder puff.

“Search for Snowball”

The little dog is the subject of hundreds of emails on website forums (Katrina-Pet-Rescue-info@yahoogroups.com), garnering concern from animal lovers as far away as South Africa. The email postings demonstrate concern not only for the dog and his little boy, but for the pain and anger of all of the victims of New Orleans.

I don't believe Snowball is in the shelter system. If s/he was, s/he
would've been found by now... Snowball was either picked-up/rescued by
someone with a heart or worse.. The things that are so upsetting about
this is that: 1. NO ONE at the scene seems to be willing/able to step
forward and say what happened to Snowball after the bus took off. NO
ONE! Not even the so-called reporters 2. The news reports by so-called
journalists who report inaccurate news to shut-up the masses.
Obviously, the days of valid news reporting and inaccurate recants is
history. 3. The people who said they cared about Snowball, but now,
they would rather believe lies (and shutdown forums from people who
really do care) instead of getting to the bottom of this travesty.
People would rather believe lies, than face the fact that this poor dog
is still missing and could be sick or dead. I am so upset, I don't know
what to do!!"
